－ What You Can Expect －

Located in southwest Taiwan, Tainan is the island nation’s first city and one of its most fascinating destinations. Steeped in rich folk culture with an intriguing industrial and colonial history, Tainan is home to countless landmarks, monuments and ancient temples, not forgetting, numerous tasty local delicacies.

The first stop on this discovery of Tainan is Ten Drum Culture Village and Chimei Museum. The entire area is devoted to promoting local traditions, arts and culture such as the famous Ten Drum Percussion Group, and preserving historical landmarks, including the century old sugar refinery.

The Sicao Wetlands, as part of Taijiang National Park, are a protected ecological environment and the setting for the Green Tunnel boat ride. A gentle raft ride between the lush mangrove surrounded canal, home to a rich and diverse range of wildlife including fiddler crabs, mudskippers and great egrets.

Sio House is a classic Japanese wooden building and was formerly used by the Japanese to store, inspect and sell salt. Today the building is listed as a historical site and visitors can learn about the region’s salt industry, find salt carvings and salt from around the world there are even 365 varieties of colorful salt, one for every day of the year, what color is your birthday salt?

Much of the history of the Anping district of Tainan can be found at the Dutch built, 17th century, Fort Zeelandia (Anping Fort) and the surrounding streets in Anping Old Street. While wandering the area, be sure to try a few of the region’s famously delicious local delicacies on offer throughout the small streets and narrow alleyways intersecting between preserved buildings and historical residences.
